Hunting Safari Charter

First stops are Mareetsane and Kameel with two full days of shooting while non-hunters enjoy game drives. The train travels south to Warrenton where hunters revel in a full day out while our other guests visit the McGregor Museum and William Humphreys Art Gallery. Continuing south to Kimberley, hunters enjoy two days of shooting with a day’s break to join guests for a tour of this historic town. The non-hunters also venture into the Mattanu Reserve for a game drive. Travelling east, the guns keep busy in the Kloofeind area while our other guests enjoy a tour of Bloemfontein and a visit to a cheetah-breeding facility. After a memorable 1400-kilometre safari in the bush, the train departs for journey’s end at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria.

*This is our proposed itinerary and date. We also have a Zimbabwe itinerary. Within reason, and subject to availability, the chartered train can go wherever there is a railway line in Southern Africa.

Hunting Safari Charter South Africa

DAY 1

10h00 Depart Rovos Rail Station. Travel west towards Mareetsane. Hunters gather for presentation on field etiquette. Lunch and dinner on board.

DAY 2

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in the Mareetsane area with lunch in the field.

PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Mareetsane area with lunch at the lodge.

NON-HUNTERS
Game drive in Mafikeng Reserve, home to about 2 000 head of game easily viewed due to the flat terrain.
Lunch with the guns in the field

DAY 3

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in Kameel located in the western region of the North West Province. Lunch in the field.

PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Kameel area. Lunch in the field.

NON-HUNTERS
Game drive in Kameel. Many animals can be viewed as well as Anglo Boer War sites and significant archaeological discoveries. Lunch with the guns in the field.

DAY 4

GAMEBIRDS
Early morning shoot in Warrenton area followed by a half-day shoot.

PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in the agricultural region of Warrenton located 61km north of Kimberley in the diamond fields of the Northern Cape. Lunch in the field.

NON-HUNTERS
Visit to the McGregor Museum in Kimberley with lunch at the Protea Hotel. Visit to an important gallery and cultural oasis, the William Humphreys Art Gallery, which houses a collection of traditional South African works and 16th- and 17th-century European and British Masters.

DAY 5

GAMEBIRDS AND NON-HUNTERS
Tour of Kimberley, the Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. Lunch at Kimberley Club. Tour of the taxidermy and rehabilitation centre at Wintershoek. Traditional bbq dinner at a local estate.

PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Kimberley area. Lunch in the field. (OR join the Kimberley tour.)

DAY 6

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in Kimberley area. Packed lunches provided.

PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Kimberley area. Lunch in the field.

NON-HUNTERS
Lunch and a game drive at Mattanu Private Game Reserve, approximately 50km northwest of the diamond digging city of Kimberley, nestled in the shade of indigenous camelthorn trees.

DAY 7

GAMEBIRDS
Full-day shoot in the Kloofeind area. Lunch in the field.

PLAINS GAME
Full day of hunting in Kloofeind area. Lunch in the field.

NON-HUNTERS
Bloemfontein tour with visits to the Anglo Boer War Museum and other monuments. Lunch at Emoya. Experience the cheetah breeding facility OR a spa treatment OR visit the Oliewenhuis Art Museum.

DAY 8

Enjoy breakfast before the train’s arrival at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 11h30.
