Senior Railcard 1/3 off rail fares and so much more...

A 60th birthday is a big milestone. But with a Senior Railcard, it’s also the starting point for travelling many more miles too. That’s because it gives you 1/3 off Standard and First Class Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance fares.
It means you can save money on visits to the grandkids, trips into town to catch a show, or weekends by the seaside – as many times as you like. Here’s what you need to know:
The Railcard costs just £30. So after a couple of trips, the card will have paid for itself. And over a year, you could save an average of £114.
Your Senior Railcard will save you 1/3 off a wide range of tickets.   Why not use our journey planner to see what savings you can make?
  • Your Railcard doesn’t just save you money on travel. It saves you money with our partners too – on days out, museums, hotels and more. Visit our Offers and Rewards area regularly to keep up to date on the great deals available.
  • Get more for your money with a 3-year Railcard.
  • If you plan to be doing a lot of travelling over the next 3 years, why not buy a 3-year Railcard instead? It costs just £70, saving you £20 on the price of three 1-year Railcards instantly. Then you can get out there and save while you explore.
Senior Railcard A quick check to make sure you're eligible...
  • You're eligible for a Senior Railcard if you are 60 years old or over.
  • You can buy one up to two weeks before your 60th birthday if you buy online, but it’ll only be valid from your birthday onwards. If you buy from a station, you’ll have to be 60 or over on the day you do it.
Buying online is easy. All you need is a valid debit or credit card and one of the items below:
  • A valid passport number
  • A valid UK driving licence
If you’d prefer to buy your Railcard at a staffed rail station, you can also use your birth certificate to prove your identity and age.

You can save yourself time by buying your Senior Railcard online. The only things you’ll need are:
  • A valid passport number or UK driving licence
  • A debit or credit card
Senior Railcard Online What happens next?

We aim to dispatch your Railcard within one working day of you ordering it, but it’s probably best to allow up to five working days for your Senior Railcard to arrive. It’ll be sent out free of charge by First Class post, but if you prefer, you have the option to pay for Special Delivery.
You’ll need the physical Railcard with you to be able to get a discount on your rail ticket, so be sure to leave enough time before your journey for the Railcard to reach you. If you need to travel straight away, you’re better off buying a Senior Railcard over the counter at your local staffed station.

Senior Railcard At a Staffed Station Ticket Office

You can buy a Senior Railcard at any staffed station ticket office or National Rail-licensed Travel Agent. The main advantage of this is that you can do it on the day you are travelling. To save time, it’s a good idea to fill in the application form before you get there.
If you're applying at a station for the first time you'll need to complete an application form which is also available here and you’ll need to bring one of the following:
  • Your birth certificate
  • Passport (all nationalities accepted)
  • UK driving licence
Once you've bought your Railcard at a station, you can then register it online. This will make it easier for you to renew or buy other cards online.
If you are renewing your Railcard, you will need to fill in the application form, and show your existing Railcard. This is automatically accepted as proof of your age.
If you do not have any of the above forms of identification you can call our telesales service, who will check your eligibility against the electoral roll.

We do not sell by phone, only online.

Senior Railcard when it is Time to Renew your Railcard?

You can renew your Senior Railcard when it’s within one month of its expiry date. Simply follow these easy steps:
  • Log in to your account
  • Click Renew next to the Railcard you wish to renew
  • Check all the details are correct
  • Pay, and you’re done!
If you need to update any of your details you can do this by clicking on the appropriate edit button on the review page.
If we have your email address, we’ll send you a reminder that your Railcard is due for renewal. But remember, it’s your responsibility to check that your Railcard is in date before buying or using Railcard-discounted tickets.
If you didn’t buy your Railcard online, you can still renew it online. Just make sure you register your Railcard first so that you don't lose any validity.
